The Upperwood Working English Setter
Upperwood working bred English Setters have always been well known as good shooting companions with grouse shooting as their primary quarry. The kennels main objective is to produce healthy dogs that a sportsman can enjoy shooting over, but yet still compete at the highest level at field trials. We look for dogs that have a good outgoing temperament with people and other dogs. They must be biddable, but have a passion for finding game in any terrain. We also want a powerful but yet stylish dog which would be a pleasure to follow.
Our bloodlines have always been from British and Irish lines, however in more recent years we have imported continental lines. These continental lines crossed with our original breeding has had a huge impact on the kennels success, especially in field trials. These new lines have increased pace and produce a more stylish dog without compromising the dogs game finding and handling ability. Dogs trained at Upperwood Kennels are not expected to retrieve but many dogs that have been bred here have gone on to make all round dogs that retrieve.
